Sceneries
An exhibition of paintings by Miwa OGASAWARA and Albrecht SCHÄFER in dialogue with the architecture of the Japanese-German Center Berlin
Miwa OGASAWARA creates atmospheric visual spaces with a reduced color palette of fine black and white gradations and soft blue, red and green tones. Her often large-format images are painted moments of pause, in which the countless impressions, perceptions, and thoughts of her observations come to life. Albrecht SCHÄFER paints interiors and still lifes in small-format, stage-like paintings and monotypes. In these, he mindfully observes simple spatial models and materials such as stones and leaves, whereby his curiosity lies not only in the objects themselves, but always also in the largely abstract space between the objects, which is determined by light and shadow.
Like the small garden, the works of Miwa OGASAWARA and Albrecht SCHÄFER express the simultaneity of different perspectives on “nature” and on concepts such as “interior and exterior”. In this way, they place their works in an artistic dialogue with each other and with the exhibition space.
