Symposium: Gender Equality in Japan and Germany
25 Years of the Beijing Declaration and Five Years of the 2030 Agenda: Progress in the Policy Field of Gender Equality in Japan and Germany
The year 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing and the associated Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
Five years have also passed since the United Nations 2030 Agenda came into force, which includes the goal of gender equality as the fifth of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On this dual occasion, this bilateral symposium examines how Japan and Germany have strengthened their efforts in the policy field of gender equality, especially during the last decade, and reviews the outcome. The following areas will be focused on:
- political representation and economic participation;
- the contribution of Japan and Germany in promoting gender equality at the international level;
- gender-related effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The virtual symposium will be held in German and Japanese with simultaneous interpretation.
