Director: SAEGUSA Genjirō (Japan, 1928, 84 Min.)
Music: Günter A BUCHWALD (conductor, piano, violin) & Silent Movie Music Company (Marc ROOS, trombone / Frank BOCKIUS, drums)
The action movie "Express 300 miles" (directed by SAEGUSA Genjiro, 1900- † unknown), developed in 1928 and believed to be lost, was rediscovered after more than 70 years and restored in 2004. The impressive action scenes and technical details of the Japanese steam locomotives could be captured thanks to the cooperation of the former Ministry of Railways.
The internationally renowned silent film specialist, musician, composer and conductor Günter A. Buchwald (© Photos) will accompany the film live and improvise on the piano and violin together with musicians from the Silent Movie Music Company.
Buchwald is currently musical director of Bristol’s Slapstick Silent Film Festival (UK) and permanent guest conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra Freiburg for silent film concerts. He works regularly with the Babelsberg Film Orchestra, where he will direct Charlie Chaplin’s film “City Lights” in Essen in 2020.
