Ceremonial announcement of the laureates of the 35th Praemium Imperiale at JDZB

11th September 2024

On 10 September 2024, the Japan Art Association announced the laureates of the 35th Praemium Imperiale, the highly prestigious ‘Nobel Prize for the Arts’ initiated by the Japanese imperial family (more information).

The announcement took place simultaneously in Tokyo, New York, London, Paris, Rome and Berlin. We are delighted that the JDZB was selected as the venue for this festive event in Berlin, which was attended by numerous renowned cultural figures.

The ceremony was also honoured with a special premiere: on this day, a photo exhibition by Donata and Wim Wenders, whose impressive photos were captured during their visits in Japan, was opened at the JDZB. Wim Wenders himself received the Praemium Imperiale in 2022 for his cinematic works, his photo exhibitions and numerous contributions through the Wim Wenders Foundation.
